Our Consultants & Supporters
We would not be where we are without them
Munekiyo & Hiraga: This planning firm, long established on Maui, worked with
Ka 'Ohana O Kalaupapa on a pro-bono basis to complete the 350-page Environmental Assessment that was approved by the Land Board in 2018.
Donald J. Stastny, FAIA FAICP FCIP, architect: Don previously played significant roles in designing the Flight 93 Memorial and Oklahoma City Memorial among many other public projects, including some that involved working with the National Park Service. Don has helped us on a pro-bono basis begin the design process for the Memorial and has remained involved as an advisor.
G70 Inc.: This Honolulu-based collective of planners, architects and engineers: Joined our effort in 2014 to design the Memorial and has helped us with other challenges along the way, working on a “low bono” basis, and pledging their support until the Memorial gets completed. We remember the founder of G70, Francis Oda, who died in February, 2026. It was Francis who proposed to G70 partners that the firm help bring the Kalaupapa Memorial to fruition.
Jason Umemoto: The great-nephew of Kalaupapa artist Ed Kato, Jason headed up the Kalaupapa Memorial Committee for many years and served on the Board of Directors. He is a landscape designer who continues to work with G70 and Ka 'Ohana on plans for the Memorial.
Goodfellow Bros, This longtime construction company on Maui has successfully undertaken and completed other projects at Kalaupapa and understands the logistics of doing a big project in the most remote setting in Hawai`i. Goodfellow remains an enthusiastic partner looking forward to building the Memorial.
Ryan Hurley, Attorney-at-Law: Ryan was brought on board by Ka 'Ohana O Kalaupapa in 2024 to help us with the permits and approvals required to complete The Kalaupapa Memorial. He has served us in many other ways and provided us with a connection to St. Louis School, his alma mater with various ties to Kalaupapa.
The Gary O. Galiher Foundation: After Gov. Ige signed the Memorial funding into law, this local foundation offered to help Ka ‘Ohana fund the maintenance of the Memorial until our endowment fund was able to do so. Because of delays in releasing the funds approved by the state even though we still needed to pay G70, our attorney and others to keep things moving, the Galiher Foundation donated more than $100,000 over the past three years to make sure our planning efforts did not stop.
Carbonaro CPAs & Management Group: Founded in 1994, this firm has handled bookkeeping and accounting services for Ka 'Ohana O Kalaupapa, including preparation of our annual financial statements and annual filings with the Internal Revenue Service

Kalaupapa resident Winnie Harada shares her mana‘o at the inaugural workshop of Ka ‘Ohana O Kalaupapa. Mrs. Harada was later elected as first Vice President of Ka ‘Ohana.
